Dear Hindu organisations,<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Many of you may be aware that some temples and members of our community had a concern about safety and security regarding their celebrations of Rama Temple inauguration on 22nd January.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The Hindu Council of Australia had raised this issue with concerned Ministries. I have held several meetings yesterday with the Parliamentary staff. Representatives of Interfaith Group BBF have provided full support to the Hindu Council.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Hindu council has been assured by the State Government and by the Police that local police commands will work with temples to ensure that the festival is safe and enjoyable for all.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
To that end, advice has been circulated to all commands which have been advised will host celebrations, asking Police to reach out and work with temples and consider how we might assist them in their preparations. In addition, officers from the Engagement and Hate Crime unit will continue to engage with representatives from each of the temples and the relevant policing commands.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Should you or any member of the community become aware of information that is of concern, that information should be provided to local police. Police can then assess the information and take actions that might be appropriate. As is always the case, should an issue arise which creates danger, people should contact 000 for immediate assistance.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

If you are celebrating the Ram temple festival and are concerned about its safety, then you can call your local command area and advise the Police of the Date, Time and place of your celebrations. This will help the Police to ensure that festivities are enjoyed by all.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

If your temple\/organisation still has any concerns, please feel free to reach out to us. The Hindu Council of Australia is doing its best to ensure that Hindus can celebrate their festivals and enjoy all the rights that everyone has.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
