{"id":2156,"date":"2018-02-23T00:49:08","date_gmt":"2018-02-23T00:49:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wwwip.com.au\/hcaold\/?p=2156"},"modified":"2018-02-27T09:03:34","modified_gmt":"2018-02-27T09:03:34","slug":"hindus-missing-out-big-time-on-school-chaplaincy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wwwip.com.au\/hcaold\/hindus-missing-out-big-time-on-school-chaplaincy\/","title":{"rendered":"Hindus missing out Big time on School Chaplaincy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <b>National School Chaplaincy Programme<\/b> (<b>NSCP<\/b>), is an <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Australian federal government\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Australian_federal_government\">Australian federal government<\/a> programme which funds <a title=\"Chaplain\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chaplain\">chaplains<\/a> in <a title=\"Australia\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Australia\">Australian<\/a> primary and secondary schools. The chaplains are to provide &#8220;support and guidance about ethics, values, relationships and spirituality&#8221;.<sup id=\"cite_ref-det_1-0\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/National_School_Chaplaincy_Programme#cite_note-det-1\">[1]<\/a><\/sup> The grants are $20,000 a year for schools and $24,000 for schools in remote areas.<sup id=\"cite_ref-SMHAug2014_2-0\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/National_School_Chaplaincy_Programme#cite_note-SMHAug2014-2\">[2]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>Hindus are missing out big time on School Chaplaincy. Hindu students form 2.5% of school students in NSW but there is not a single known Hindu Chaplain in any of the schools.<\/p>\n<p>While the NSCP is formally not religion-specific, the chaplains employed under the programme are disproportionately <a title=\"Christianity\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Christianity\">Christian<\/a>. In 2011, one study stated that 96.5% of the chaplains employed under the programme were Christian, while only 64% of Australians identified as Christian (based on the 2006 census). By contrast, 0.01% of the chaplains were secular, whereas 19% of Australians identified as having no religion. <a title=\"Buddhism\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Buddhism\">Buddhism<\/a>, the second largest religion, is followed by 2% of Australians, but only 0.03% of the school chaplains. <a title=\"Islam\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Islam\">Islam<\/a> was followed by 1.7% of Australians, but only 0.9% of school chaplains. <a title=\"Judaism\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Judaism\">Judaism<\/a> is the only religion which had a roughly proportionate representation, with 0.45% of the Australian population following the religion, and 0.5% of school chaplains.<\/p>\n<p>(Source Wikipedia and Census)<\/p>\n<h3>Related Images:<\/h3>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National School Chaplaincy Programme (NSCP), is an Australian federal government programme which funds chaplains in Australian primary and secondary schools.
