I learnt about Bali\u2019s universal philosophy of living sustainably in peace and harmony called:\u00a0<strong>Tri Hita Karana,\u00a0<\/strong>which is derived from Sanskrit and translates into \u201cthree causes of human well-being\u201d, namely:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>PARAHYANGAN \u2013 Harmony with God or human spirit.<\/li>\n<li>PAWONGAN \u2013 Harmony with people.<\/li>\n<li>PALEMAHAN \u2013 Harmony with nature or environment.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Parahyangan<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 is the belief in God, the universal spirit that is part of every individual. It is essential for our mental peace and tranquillity. They worship the power of God through various rituals and offerings in the temples.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pawongan \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0is to create harmonious relationships among human beings. This wisdom directs people to believe that we are all one, to believe in cooperation and respect for each other having social harmony. This wisdom is so relevant in today\u2019s environment of wars and killings going on in different parts of the world.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Palemahan\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 is the harmonious relationship with Mother Nature. A belief in the inter-connectedness of all living beings including plants, animals, and all aspects of Mother Earth. Environmental pollution is one of the most important problems facing the world.
