General Religious Education in Secondary Schools

Hindu Council has been involved with the NSW Department of School Education since 2003 in drafting the original syllabus which was introduced in 2005. Cambridge University Press published the textbook for the course covering all the five religions. In 2015 we were again consulted by the publishers when the updated version of the textbook was published.

E-course on Hindu Religion

This course is designed to provide an overview of Hindu Religion and is suitable for non-Hindus to gain a very brief understanding of the Hindu religion.

A brief syllabus of the course “Introduction to Hindu Religion” is given below.

Introduction (Sanatan dharma, Definitions, Denominations and Diversity, Unity, Colonial influences), Beliefs, Purusharthas, Philosophies, Karma, Moksha, Concept of God, Traditions, Symbols, Scriptures, Rituals and Ceremonies, Rites of Passage, Bhakti, Festivals, Pilgrimage, Varnas, Yoga, Ahimsa, Vegetarianism, Temples, Ashramas of Life, Sanyasa, , Attitude of others, Hindu Religion in Australia.

HCA has always been a wonderful platform and a great source of network for Indian migrants. I have always had a very good experience since I moved to Australia 25 years ago. There are a variety of activities continuously conducted by this organisation year after year in various areas like charities, food donations, age care, and predominately to pass on Hindu values to the future generations.

Kudos for the great work done so far to promote hindu culture customs and festivals in Australia and help the hindus from all around the world living in Australia to keep their traditions alive. Hope hindu council of Australia continues their great work in being one single voice for people with hindu faiths and feel proud Australians.

HCA has played pivotal role in developing an united Hindu community in Australia. It is at the forefront when it comes to helping wider community regardless of the social, economic and religious backgrounds via advise, networking, supporting, raising funds, etc.. I love the cultural events organised by HCA especially the Diwali Mela, Holi function and International Yoga Day. Hindu Council of Australia is an organisation selflessly working for Hindus in Australia and spreading the message of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam - Whole World is a family. We need more people and organisations like these to truly spread the message of all Human beings living together as a family.

However i do not have any direct experience at this place but i do know some people/volunteers there working towards protecting our cultural values and traditions,Their contribution towards Hindu society is valuable ,one of them is Mr. Dhaval Modi at Hindu coulcil ,for whom i have high respect for his Seva. Organising great events like exhibitions for Diwali (festival of light) for everyone. I have witnessed Australians taking lot of interest in these events strengthening the multicultural values.
